This was also a trip a few years ago. I had been to Rome, Venice and Genoa that time, but the most interesting place was Pompeii. The city was completely buried during the eruption of Vesuvius at 79A.D.. Evacuation of it some two thousand years afterward was just like opening a time capsule which contained a whole city. Some of its citizens were leading a lifestyle so refined that it was well beyond my imagination.
